The Bismarck-Mandan Chamber of Commerce hosted Matt Koch of the US Chamber of Commerce's Institute for 21st Century Energy on Tuesday, March 14th in Bismarck for a luncheon speech to approximately 100 business leaders. The event with part of the National Hot Topic Luncheon series and Matt’s speech was entitled "North American Energy – Realities and Opportunities." At the Chamber event, Matt was interviewed by Bismarck-based television station KFYR-TV (NBC).

“TransCanada’s latest application to build a 1,200 mile portion of the Keystone XL pipeline from Alberta to Steele City, Nebraska will move us closer to thousands of jobs and increased energy security for America. TransCanada is working with the state of Nebraska to develop a path forward for the pipeline through that state which will be finalized this fall, meaning that the Obama Administration can no longer credibly use Nebraska as an excuse to deny any part of the pipeline permit.

The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) has scheduled four public information sessions on the new Nebraska pipeline route starting Thursday, May 9th and continuing through next week (see dates and locations below). The Environmental Protection Agency has the important charge of keeping our water safe and our air clean. It’s a mission supported by the business community—and collectively, we’ve invested $1.5 trillion over the last 30 years to improve the environment. AS oil and gasoline prices rise, political pressure to tap the roughly 700 million barrels in the national Strategic Petroleum Reserve is building, including among some in Congress. The global oil market is fundamentally strained and suffering from an array of unwelcome but unremarkable problems. Yet the oil reserve is neither designed nor well equipped to address these chronic weaknesses. Instead it should be preserved to address an emergency disruption in supply.
